taylor swift discography

I've known taylor since her red era. I remember seeing her face from the red album on my strawberry cornetto ice cream. I didn't know that you can get tickets to see her live shows in Singapore if you're lucky enough with the ice cream you're eating.

I knew songs like 22, red, you belong with me, back to december, blank space, look what you look me do, me!, cardigan, etc. but never considered myself a fan. but again, I never thought of going to live shows or studying someone's entire discography seriously, until I fell into the fandom.

we know that Taylor has many phases, or as she likes to call them, eras: taylor swift, fearless, speak now, red, 1989, reputation, lover, folklore, evermore, and midnights.

I think I can't really force myself to like certain artists or to follow the thing everyone else is doing. kpop, for example. I tried listening to blackpink and bts but they just don't fit my type. funny enogh, her commercially successful albums did no job in luring me into the fandom. it was folklore and evermore that got me. champagne problems and gold rush in evermore, to be more specific. after learning more about how her life phases influenced her music, I'd like to believe that she returns to her purest and most mature songwriting during this face. they are fearless and speak now rewritten and reinterpreted, with a touch of historical longevity and this ambient and magical feeling imprinted to it.

on respecting personal lives
listening to taylor's music not only taught me about the evolution of songwriting, but also how to establish the boundaries in knowing about artists' personal lives to respect them, as they are human, too. it is not something we really have a say over, and there are certain aspects of the fandom that I don't like, with discussing taylor's personal lives being an example. I do think about them, and I admit that I was confused and upset during her breakup. ever since relationships that I think can't fail in any possible way failed, I realize how impermanent everything is. I think all this boils down to refining the why behind why you listen to their music and not let their personal lives being a big portion within it. you can't really separate the art from the artist, much as you can't unboil an egg, but you can choose to follow the decent part of their philosophy and how they lived fearlessly and made mistakes. I think that's what makes them truly human.

dissecting discography
stolen from someone's comment
  1. taylor swift, the country girl
  2. fealess, the teenage girl
  3. speak now, the princess
  4. red, a heartbroken woman
  5. 1989, the party woman
  6. reputation, a brave woman
  7. lover, the lover
  8. folklore, a wise woman
  9. evermore, the woman who told the stories
  10. midnights, the brilliant insomniac

thinking this through, I search for the calm in folklore and evermore, and the calamity in 1989 and reputation. not exactly calamity, but the tension slowly building up and the catharsis afterwards, as in getaway car and out of the woods.
